Leonard is a registered Patent Attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is admitted to practice in State Courts in Michigan. Leonard specializes in the enforcement, evaluation, and procurement of intellectual property rights. In addition to previous private practice experience in which he drafted and prosecuted mechanical and software patent applications, Leonard is a former patent examiner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. At the USPTO Leonard examined and prosecuted patent applications relating to computerized systems, devices, and their corresponding data processing methods, gaining expertise in the area of computer software and subject matter patentability issues.
Prior to beginning his legal career, Leonard had over 10 years of Automotive Engineering and Materials Science experience specializing in the areas of polymer-based technologies such as paints, coatings, adhesives, sealants and plastics, as well as aspects of inorganic materials relating to steel, aluminum, and metal alloys. Leonard's prior engineering experience included a position as Sr. Materials Engineer with Nissan Technical Center North America, where he was responsible for material research and development and engineering design.
